Course Title: World Geography Grade Level: 9 - 12

World Geography is the study of the physical and cultural aspects of the world. In World Geography you will look at the physical makeup of the earth, such as sun/earth relationships, climates, land forms, plants and patterns of vegetation. All the continents, countries, regions, and their people will be studied to give the student an awareness of the great number of cultures, races, and nationalities in our world today.

 

Course Title: World History Grade Level: 9 - 12

An in depth course of World History from the Greek and Roman era to the present. The class will place special emphasis on lasting developments in government, religion, economics, scientific and artistic pursuits of various civilizations. Particular attention paid to those that influence western civilizations with the hope that students will draw parallels between the past and present. Current events will be mixed with the course curriculum on a daily basis.

 

Course Title: American History Grade Level: 11
Duration: 2 Semesters Prerequisite: None

An in-depth course of American History from the post-civil war Reconstruction era to the present. The class will consist of reading assignments from the text and supplemental information. The presentation will consist of lecture, question-answer, note-taking and audiovisual materials. The goal is to help the students gain an understanding of historical happenings, and an ability to analyze past & current events in a historical context and gain an appreciation for the science.

 

Course Title: Psychology Grade Level: 11-12

This course will introduce students to basic psychological terms, basic theories, and to well-known psychologists. Psychology is science of human behavior, and students taking this course will develop a better understanding of themselves and their behavior at life's different stages. Psychology is relevant to today's modern world and necessary for many careers that are "people oriented. "Presentation of material will be lecture, note taking, questions & answer sessions and film/videotape of relevant material dealing with psychology.

 

Course Title: American Government Grade Level: 12

American Government is a study of organization and interrelations of National, State and Local levels of American government. Students are expected to have an understanding of the constitution, the 3 branches of government, the concepts of democracy, comparative political systems and more when the class is completed.

 

Course Title: Modern Problems Grade Level: 10-12
Duration: 1 Semester Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 5

The Modern Problems course is designed to familiarize students with the various issues and news events taking place in the world and how these events affect our lives. Local, state, national and world news items will all be featured. Students will be involved in a variety of learning activities including but not limited to: library research, video viewing, mock trial participation, daily newspaper reading assignments and oral reports.
