Course Title: P.E./First Aid Grade Level: 9
Duration: 2 Semesters Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 10

During the ninth grade year a program of personal growth and development is provided. Students encounter a wide variety of activities. These activities include individual, dual, and team games. This year is also spent in a study of first aid and the personal safety of the individuals. The course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skill called for in situations in which emergency first aid care is required. Personal safety and accident prevention are studied along with causes of accidents and how to eliminate or minimize their happenings. Grading includes class participation, notebooks and tests. P.E. class meets three times a week and First Aid class meets twice per week. Supplement materials include filmstrips, videotapes, Discovery Channel and programs like ER.

 

Course Title: P.E. Conditioning Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: 2 Semesters Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 10

P. E. Conditioning is designed to give each student a chance to develop in the areas of flexibility, strength, power, and speed/quickness. This class will also help students to develop coordination and endurance. It is a goal of this course to assist students in beginning a lifelong interest in maintaining or improving one's physical fitness.

 

Course Title: Advanced Physical Education Grade Level: 10-12
Duration: 1 or 2 Semesters Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 5 per semester

Students who are not participants in school sponsored co-curricular "sports" activities are encouraged to take this class. Students will be expected to "do their best" in cardio/vascular activities, and fun filled individual and team sports. Working cooperatively within competitive framework will be emphasized. Evaluation will be based on a competitive/cooperative spirit and attendance. Approximately two days each week will be devoted to related strength training and fitness training activities.
