An introduction to the Spanish language and culture is the primary objective of Spanish I. The year course intends to teach all four language skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. More emphasis is placed on the first two language skills. Cultural points of interest are explained as they are mentioned in the textbook or inquired of by the student. Simple idiomatic expressions are employed in oral and written communication. The Six Traits writing skills will be followed in paragraph development. |

Spanish II continues the work of Spanish I, with emphasis on all four language skills: listening comprehension , speaking, reading and writing. The student will begin to read more and more literature thereby permitting him to increase his vocabulary and discuss what he has read. Because of his study and knowledge of Spanish, he should be able to use the language most of the time in the classroom. He also continues to study the fundamental and idiomatic construction of the Spanish language. Spanish history and culture is studied. Because of the emphasis on speaking, reading and writing the students will write and produce many skits in the Spanish language. |

Spanish III is a proficiency-based class designed to promote thinking skills and competency in speaking, listening, reading and writing the Spanish language. It will also serve to strengthen students' knowledge of the culture and contributions of Spanish-speaking peoples. Students will be actively involved in the learning process with the teacher acting primarily as a facilitator to student learning, providing opportunities for student practice and providing opportunities for each student to develop and enhance the skills already learned. Language practice will be done in the context of every day situations that students who are visiting a Spanish-speaking country for an extended stay might encounter. |

| Course Title: Spanish IV | Grade Level: 12 |
| Duration: 2 Semesters | Prerequisite: Passed Spanish I, II & III and English 9, 10 & 11 |
| Credits: 10 | |
Students in Spanish IV will explore different regions of the Spanish speaking world. They will read illustrated versions of episodes from four classic literary works. The language skills they have developed so far will provide with the tools they need to acquire new skills and enhance the ability to communicate in Spanish fluently. |
