Course Title: Accounting I Grade Level: 10-12
Duration: 2 Semesters Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 10

Accounting I provides an understanding of the basic principles of the double-entry accounting system. Students will study the accounting cycle for a sole proprietorship, a partnership, and a corporation. Some activities in the course include recording transactions, preparing worksheets, financial statements, and payroll; studying taxes, and working on business simulations. Course Title: Accounting II Grade Level: 11-12
Duration: 2 Semesters Prerequisite: Accounting I
  Credits: 10
Accounting II is designed to help students acquire additional knowledge of accounting procedures and techniques. Computerized accounting will be utilized throughout the course. Special emphasis is given to analyzing and interpreting financial information used in making managerial decisions. Students will be made aware of specialized accounting careers and will apply the techniques while working on problems throughout the automated textbook and business simulations. More in depth studying will be done with Corporate Accounting. Text: Automated Accounting 8.0

 

Course Title: Entrepreneurship Grade Level: 11-12
Duration: 2 Semesters Prerequisite: None

"Entrepreneurship" is a year long elective class for juniors and seniors. Students will learn all aspects of what it takes to own your own business. Students will create their own business and Standard Business Plan. They will manage aspects of that business including, but not limited to, name, logo, and slogan creation, goal setting, financial and market analysis, advertising and marketing to your target market, business communicatins and negotiations, business ethics and social responsibility, employee management, purchasing, and time management. Students will also manage the Swede Store utilizing all of the above aspects.

 

Course Title: Personal Finance Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: 1 Semester Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 5
Personal Finance gives students a perspective on making wise financial decisions. Topics covered: Credit Management, Resource Management, Housing, Buying/Owning a Vehicle, Family Decisions, and Risk Management/Insurance. This course is highly valuable to all students (college and non-college bound students).

 

Course Title: Introduction to Business Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: 1 Semester Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 5
Introduction to Business provides an opportunity for students to understand the role of business in today’s society. The course provides a basis for further study in business as well as offering useful and practical aspects of living for all students. It is designed to help students become wise consumers, good citizens, and efficient employees while contributing to the development of their total economic understanding. Topics covered will include: Career Decisions, Work Laws, Pay & Benefits and Banking Services.

 

Course Title: Web Design Grade Level: 10-12
Duration: 1 Semester Prerequisite: None
  Credits: 5
Web Design is designed for those students who have a specific interest in creating web pages for the Internet. Students will learn the basics of HTML programming and then advance to the web design software Dreamweaver. Activities will include researching internet sites, advanced use of cameras, scanners and graphic software. The students will be creating personal, music, and business web pages as well as the majority of the second half of the semester students will be responsible for maintaining the Gothenburg Public School’s web site. Students will also be trained using Voice Recognition (talking to their computer versus keyboarding).

 

Course Title: Computer Applications I Grade Level: 8

*Required 8th Grade Course-Will need to take in H.S. if not satisfactory completion in 8th grade.
Computer Applications is designed to assist students in the operation and use of a computer. The student will develop a knowledge of computer concepts and applications. The student will learn how to apply computer knowledge and basic operational skills through word processing, database, and spreadsheets. They will also explore the internet and be introduced to the presentation software Power Point.

 

Course Title: Computer Applications II Grade Level: 9-12
Duration: 1 Semester Prerequisite: Computer Applications I (8th)

Computer Applications II is designed to expose students on working with a PC (Windows) computer. Units of instruction will include picture editing (Adobe Photoshop), video production (Photostory 3-utilizing digital pictures as well as use of flip video cameras), Power Point (which will include creating & inserting a movie within their powerpoint), advanced MS Word and Excel (including charts and graphs) and Desktop Publishing (including a resume). Students will learn more about how to use digital and video cameras, scanners, and graphics software.

 

Course Title: Multimedia Grade Level: 10-12
Duration: 1 semester Prerequisite: Computer Applications I & II
  Credits: 5
Multimedia is designed to develop proficiency in computer and technology applications on the PC computer. Advanced units of instruction will include Power Point (including charts, graphs, etc.), Video Production (Pinnacle Studio 10), Podcasting, Desktop Publishing (including newsletter, brochure, coupons, etc.), and researching/purchasing of a PC computer. Students will become more efficient with the use of digital and video cameras, scanners, and graphics software. This is for the student that enjoys a challenge and likes to work on creative projects.

 

Course Title: TECHS Grade Level: 11-12
Duration: 2 semesters Prerequisite: Instructor Permission
  Credits: 10
This course is for students with a strong interest in technology especially the "techie" type student. Through the coordination of ESU 10 and Mrs. Keiser, TECHS is a year-long course designed for students in grades 11-12 who have a strong interest in technology. Topics include Introduction to TECHS, Tools of the Trade (wiring, printer and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, building a computer, etc.), Operating Systems, Remote Learning (video conferencing, video streaming, podcasting, etc.), Advanced Web Design, and assisting with everyday technology situations in our classrooms and labs. You MUST have instructor and administrator's permission.
