| This course is designed to introduce first year students to the world of agriculture/ agribusiness. The course deals with career opportunities in agriculture/ agribusiness, introduction to animal science, plant science, and natural resources. Students will be introduced to FFA, parliamentary procedures, record-keeping, and leadership. Students are encouraged to have a supervised agriculture experience project. | |

| This class will incorporate the sciences of animals. The animal science class will discuss animal anatomy, nutrition, health, reproduction, care and management of livestock. The class will also discuss livestock management of horses, cattle, swine, sheep, poultry and sheep. These students will compete in a livestock management contest at districts. | |
| Course Title: Agricultural Sciences | Grade Level: 11-12 |

This course will cover a broad view of topics in very short units. This course will be arranged on a 3 week interval system. The topics to be discussed in the first semester will include range management and identification of range plants and native grasses. Soils evaluation and introduction to soils judging will be included. The students will discuss soil types and analyze topography of the soil. The students will compete in livestock judging and evaluation and will be encouraged to give reason analysis. Natural resources and wildlife management, where the students will identify wildlife species and habitats discussing hunting and fishing regulations and analyze laws used by game warden officials and look at careers included in the game and parks. Agricultural communications will be the final unit where students will use writing skills, oral skills and learn about broadcasting as a career choice. The second semester will include topics in agricultural sales. The students will create a sales presentation and be involved in a group sales project. Ag technology and mechanics will have students understand the importance of global positioning systems and technical fields used in agriculture today as well as a short unit on mechanical engineering used in agriculture today. Agronomy will be emphasized with plant identification, disorders and weed and seed identification. Farm and ranch management will discuss business net worth statements and balance sheets as well as how students can make wise management decisions used in their own supervised agricultural experiences. Floriculture will be examined with the students making corsages and identifying floral plants used in todays floricultural industry. Food science will have the students explore food quality and the science used today to explore new ideas in food preperation. |

| This course covers a broad view of leadership development through better understanding of an individual's personal development and group interaction. Topics of instruction include leadership in the community, characteristics of an effective leader, goal setting, self-esteem, leadership potential, communication, time management, personality types, winning, strengths, motivation and teamwork. | |
| Course Title: Landscaping Design & Development | Grade Level: 11-12 |

| The individual who pursues a career in landscaping is a service person, whose professional objective is to satisfy the needs of people who use and enjoy the landscape. This class is focused on annual and perennial plants, evergreens, trees, shrubs and ground covers used in the principles of landscaping and the maintenance of a landscape. The student will plan and prepare a landscape. They will also be involved in the every day operation of a greenhouse. Also, turf grass management will be studied. The class will include aquatics. Aquatic life will be studied where students will appreciate a hands on learning environment where fish or shrimp will be raised. This class will be held in the spring semester. | |

| This course will cover a broad view of leadership as a local FFA chapter officer. Topics of instruction will include chapter and student development and community development practices. Characteristics of an affective leader, teamwork, motivation tools, and advanced parliamentary procedure will also be covered. The class will develop the Gothenburg FFA’s program of activities for the year and carry out duties as an FFA officer. | |
